Why They Prefer Female Owners Over Male Owners
Why do our cats prefer female owners? The reason is the owner's voice.
Cats, who retain strong wild instincts, dislike low voices. Low voices sound similar to the sounds made by predators in the wild.
So they instinctively tend to perceive low voices as belonging to predators.
The second reason is large size and abrupt movements. Cats also detect threats quickly by sight. Large, fast movements recall the behavior patterns of predators and can put a cat on guard.
For these reasons, cats may regard the typically lower-voiced, larger, big-moving male owners as predators trying to hunt them — which is why they prefer female owners.
Practical Tips for Winning Your Cat's Heart
The moment you first meet your cat, never rush up making a big fuss out of excitement!
Speak softly in a voice that is not too low and not loud. The key here is ‘not loud.’ Cats react sensitively even to high volume.
When reaching out, male owners should avoid approaching with fingers fully spread. Instead, lead with the back of the hand and make your hand look smaller as you approach.
Curl your fingers lightly, show the back of your hand first, and wait for your cat to approach you first.
Let go of the mindset “Cats don't like me” and approach with the attitude “Let me earn the cat's trust through respect.”
Cats read human emotions very well. Even if they seem somewhat cold at first, if you show a consistent and respectful attitude they will gradually begin to open up.
Approach your cat with respect and love, and you can become a beloved owner.
